I thought the traffic should be a bit smoother after breaking the fast, but it was not. The traffic jam around 6PM today was so crazy! It took me about 1.5 hours from Mid Plaza to Bumbu Desa Restaurant near Blok S area. I called Busono to make sure he’s on his way to this place but nobody picked up the phone on the other side. By the time I arrived there a number of friends were ready to go home or go to another engagement.
I was not really interested in eating but in meeting my friends – I did not see some of them since I graduated from ITB. OK, here’s the list: Cak Ar, Apet, Menot, Idon, Erwin, Henrus, Gito, Elan, Shinta, Jupri, and Novi. It took me couple minutes to recognize Idon – abis udah gak ada rambutnya! *smile* Busono, Hendra, Nanang, Dewo, Galih, Hasta Arya, Hasnil, Qiva, and Hartoko could not make it, for they’re either still working or are out of town.
I’m glad to see them in natural condition for their age – Erwin already had udergone bypass operation couple years ago, Jupri had ballooned at least three sizes compared to when he was still a student, Gito had also increased in size but not as much as Jupri and Erwin, Elan with receding hairline, … but Cak Ar, Apet, Menot, Novi, Shinta, Henrus are hardly changed. Although most of them are still working in the oil & gas industry but some of them are working in mining, professional services, and finance industry; from business owner, president director, to professionals; from private to state owned companies; from permanent employees to freelancer. Shinta’s thesis was about petrography but she has worked in the oil and gas industry since she started working. Apet is the tax man – now leads the government tax office in West Jakarta. Most of us who are skeptic about Sunset Policy bombarded him with questions and doubts.
I brought six photo albums full of pictures from our old days at ITB. We all laughed when we looked at the pictures and tried to recall who were in the pictures and on what occasions. I wrote down my comments for those pictures – and when I read it again… I asked myself ‘did I really write it like that?’ It’s so funny! Cak Ar will scan the pictures and transfer them to Busono who will compile and manage the database of our pictures. I just have one request to whoever handles my pictures: all photo albums and the pictures inside the albums should be returned in their original conditions, i.e., there should be no picture missing from the albums and there should be no cigarette smell left on these albums. I promised to bring more photo albums next time we meet so they can be documented.
Before we brought the gathering to and end, Shinta reminded us that we are still going on with our plan to help financing the education of Geology Department staff’s children. And Idon will be our reps for the upcoming big reunion on October 25-26, 2008 – he’s one of the working committee’s members.
We’ll arrange the halal bihalal for sure – so others that couldn’t make it tonight will be able to make it then.
